Research Centers in HHP
HHP boasts of world class research centers and a highly productive faculty that gives students a wide array of inter-disciplinary fields to work in.
The Laboratory of Integrative Physiology (LIP)
The Laboratory of Integrative Physiology (LIP) faculty have expertise in exercise, inflammation, immunology, and vascular function. Using cutting-edge research techniques and both human and animal studies, we answer scientific questions relating to aging, cancer, and other chronic diseases like atherosclerosis, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease.
The Research and Innovation in Sport Excellence (RISE) lab
The Research and Innovation in Sport Excellence (RISE) lab is leading the way in sport research and innovation. The purpose of this lab is to understand and promote the impact of sport and its participants in healthy ways. We will do this through research, community partnerships, education dissemination, and the promotion of inclusion, especially the inclusion of the diversity of people, ideas, and academic disciplines. Thus, we aim to render sport (and its participants) “healthier” from a holistic, multi-dimensional perspective and through this aim, we will maximize and promote excellence in sport.
The Center for Neuromotor and Biomechanics Research (CNBR)
Control of posture and locomotion are complex functions that rely on coordinated interactions between the nervous system, the musculo-skeletal system, the cardiovascular system, and the environment. To study these functions, The Center for Neuromotor and Biomechanics Research (CNBR) brings together interdisciplinary research teams having expertise in engineering, physiology, clinical medicine, psychology, human factors, physics, mathematics, and computer science.
The Community Health Promotion (CHP) Lab
The Community Health Promotion lab aims to be powerful force for change, blending research and academic rigor with real-world applications. The lab draws from a deep and talented faculty pool that spans nutrition, sports research, biomechanics, community health and interventions, physiology and education.
Research Opportunities
Research in Sport and Fitness Administration
Sport and Fitness Administration faculty at HHP address topical and innovative research in the field of sport management. Additionally our faculty work with community partners to make sure research is developed with and reaches practitioners. SFA faculty explore issues of consumer behavior, race and intercollegiate sport, race, gender, and sport participation, sport history, sport for development, and disability sport. Research from this program has been cited globally and has allowed for national and international partnerships. We are actively recruiting doctoral students and our graduates have found tenure track faculty positions nationwide.
