Congratulations to Asher Antonio González-Ortiz (PhD student advised by Dr. N. L. A. Gharala) on completing the onsite 2026 LLILAS Benson Spanish Paleography + Digital Humanities Institute at the University of Texas! This selective opportunity provided Asher with DH training relevant to his interests in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Puerto Rico. Asher previously studied with the Sin Barcos Spanish Paleography Institute with the support of a Fishman Moores Scholarship to Support Graduate Student Training.
“Attending the LLILAS Benson SP+DH Institute was a great learning experience that allowed me to meet and work with scholars in various fields pertaining to Latin America’s colonial past. Dr. Albert Palacios fostered a wonderful and collegial environment that brought together graduate students and seasoned scholars in the practice of Spanish paleography and in the crafting of digital projects, skills that are imperative to my research on colonial Puerto Rico.” --- Asher González-Ortiz, PhD student in Latin American History
