Dr. Pratik Chakrabarti, NEH-Cullen Chair in History & Medicine, has edited a special issue in the journal Isis (published by the History of Science Society) on “Is Deep History White?”  According to Dr. Chakrabarti, the new issue asks questions about the definition of Deep history and its relationships to European thought in the eighteenth century. A leading scholar and graduate mentor in our department, Dr. Chakrabarti contributes widely to the history of science, medicine, and global and imperial history, spanning South Asian, Caribbean, and Atlantic history from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. He is the author, most recently, of the monograph Inscriptions of Nature: Geology and the Naturalization of Antiquity, and his project, funded by his chair, is called “Health is Politics”.
