Undergraduates Present Original Research at 2026 Meeting of the American Historical Association in Chicago

UH undergraduate students represented the new generation of scholars in our discipline this year at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Chicago. Two students mentored by faculty in our department participated in a poster session for undergraduates from across the country on January 10. Jorge Palomo presented findings on the impact of immigration in Houston from his 2024 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship mentored by Dr. Debbie Harwell. Nine Abad (pictured) shared research from a senior thesis project, advised by Dr. N. L. A. Gharala, on two figures in Philippine mythology and history. Each year, our department fosters and encourages outstanding students through research mentorship and awards, in partnership with the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Office of Undergraduate Research and Major Awards.
