Care Team

The University of Houston Care Team is dedicated to fostering a secure, supportive, and thriving learning environment. We prioritize community safety, student success, and overall well-being through a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach. Our team is committed to assisting students in managing crises and addressing academic or personal challenges. By comprehensively facilitating student development and community engagement, the UH Care Team exemplifies a dynamic and student-centered space.

Team Goals

Provide care-centered resources and services to members of the University community.
Gather, assess, and recommend interventions with individuals who demonstrate concerning or threatening behavior.
Provide support and resources to community members who are concerned for another individual in the University community.

Family Emergency

The Care Team can notify faculty of a student’s absence due to an emergency or crisis and provide referrals to appropriate campus and community resources. Documentation of the emergency is required.

Hospitalization or Mental Health Emergency

The Care Team can notify faculty of a student’s absence due to a medical emergency and provide referrals to appropriate campus and community resources. Documentation of the emergency is required.

Who We Are & How We Can Help

The Care Team will conduct outreach to the student of concern to assess their well-being and connect them with appropriate support and resources. When appropriate, the Care Team may collaborate with relevant campus partners—including academic advisors, faculty, housing staff, emergency contacts, and/or the University of Houston Police Department—to support coordinated outreach and intervention efforts.

To request an immediate Health and Welfare check, please contact the University of Houston Police Department at 713-743-3333 regarding the student’s well-being. To coordinate with the Care Team for a Health and Welfare check, please submit a Care Referral.

In the event of a student death, the Dean of Students Office serves as the primary point of contact for the student’s family and assists with navigating university processes and notifications. The office coordinates with appropriate campus departments to address necessary administrative matters. In partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services, outreach and support are also provided to individuals and groups impacted by the loss.

To report the death of a student, please contact the Dean of Students Office at dos@uh.edu or 832-842-6183.

Serving You

The Care Team provides support to currently enrolled students and individuals who have been enrolled within the past 13 months. Students who are not enrolled in a subsequent semester remain eligible for Care Team support during this period. Individuals who have not been enrolled for 13 consecutive months are no longer considered active students and are not eligible for ongoing Care Team services unless they are readmitted to the university.

Coogs Report

The Coogs Report serves as the University of Houston’s centralized referral and reporting system for concerns related to student well-being, safety, and behavioral support. Through a collaborative and student-centered approach, the UH Care Team works with campus partners to assess concerns, provide outreach, and connect students with appropriate resources and services.
