The University of Houston’s Center for Student Advocacy and Community (CSAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Symone A. McCollum, Ph.D., as its new assistant director. Dr. McCollum joined the University of Houston community in May 2026 and brings a strong background in higher education administration, student success research, and intentional community-building.
Dr. McCollum recently earned her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. Her appointment marks a significant addition to the department, bringing a unique blend of scholarly research and student-centered practice.

"I believe her scholarly background and practical familiarity with the college student experience will elevate and inform our office’s student affairs practice," said Michael Crook, Director of the Center for Student Advocacy and Community. “And I have no doubt that Dr. Symone, as we call her in the office, will immediately enhance our department’s impact on students’ sense of belonging and graduation rates.”
In her new capacity as Assistant Director, Dr. McCollum will serve on the department’s leadership team and utilize her expertise in data-driven strategy and student programming to elevate CSAC’s community-building initiatives. She will lead university-wide marketing strategies and manage relationships with campus partners and student organizations.

"I am honored to bring my skills and passion to CSAC and to contribute to its continued growth as a space for student advocacy and belonging."
Dr. McCollum holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University, a Master of Education in Higher Education from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Education and Public Policy from Pennsylvania State University.
