The Division of Student Affairs is proud to recognize Eric Smith, leadership, and civic engagement specialist with the Center for Student Involvement, as the February 2026 Golden Paw Employee of the Month. Eric’s outstanding leadership, unwavering dedication to student success, and meaningful impact across the Division continue to make a lasting difference at the University of Houston.
In his role within the Center for Student Involvement, Eric oversees leadership and civic engagement programming, advises the Metropolitan Volunteer Program, and supports the daily operations of the department. His commitment to students is especially evident in his willingness to step in as the interim advisor for the Interfraternity Council, helping guide student leaders through a fair and policy-compliant recruitment process while ensuring continuity and support during a critical time.
Beyond his departmental responsibilities, Eric’s influence extends across the division through his service as Chair of the Staff Engagement Committee. In this leadership role, he is helping foster a stronger sense of connection, collaboration, and community among staff members, creating opportunities for engagement that strengthen the Division of Student Affairs as a whole.
Eric’s work as a CliftonStrengths coach has also been deeply impactful. Through thoughtfully developed workshops, engaging facilitation, and one-on-one coaching, he empowers both students and staff to better understand their strengths and maximize their potential. His ability to inspire growth, confidence, and leadership in others reflects the very spirit of the Golden Paw Award.
