Biological Safety

October is International Biosafety and Biosecurity Month!

This year, we proudly celebrate Cougars in Control: Advancing Safe Science at UH through highlighting our commitment to Collaboration, Oversight, Expertise, Containment, Risk Mitigation and Biosecurity

Join the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Biosafety Team as we celebrate a month dedicated to promoting a safe and secure research environment at the University of Houston!

Why It Matters:

Biosafety Month is a time to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the policies, practices, and processes that protect our research community. Let’s work together to foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and innovation.

Biological Safety

The safety of all members of the campus community is a primary concern of the University of Houston. The purpose of the Biosafety is to address safety through the proper management of potentially hazardous biological agents such as bloodborne pathogens (HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, etc.). This is accomplised through the development of policies and procedures inteded to provide guidance for worker safety when handling biological agents.

In addition to policies, responsibilities and requirements for working with biological materials, this webpage contains helpful information for the day to day management of your laboratory.

For additional information or clarification please contact the Biological Safety Manager.
