Gerardo Angulo is a Senior at the University of Houston’s Honors College, where he
majors in Political Science and has a Minor in Energy & Sustainability. Having worked
in the energy industry since he was 18 years old, Gerardo has been involved in research,
legal analysis, and strategy roles throughout his time. He was a recipient of the
Honors College’s PURS scholarship, a UH Energy Scholar, and received additional funding
to study abroad in Italy in the summer of 2024, where he analyzed the role of energy
markets on Western European countries in the wake of the Russia–Ukraine War.
Gerardo is a recipient of the Hatton W. Sumners scholarship, the most prestigious award for a political science student in the United States. Gerardo received one of only 28 scholarships awarded nationally in 2024. Gerardo was selected as a Sumners Scholar by the Foundation for his junior and senior years of college because of his academic excellence, and interest in and commitment to furthering the understanding of democracy in today’s complicated political reality.
In the summer of 2025, Gerardo was one of two legal interns at Saudi Aramco's Americas branch, where he gained deeper insight into relevant aspects of the energy industry. He worked closely with a team of 15 attorneys on various IP, data privacy, venture capital, and contract management projects and was featured in Aramco's magazine and in promotional videos for the company.
Gerardo hopes to attend law school or obtain a master's degree that will position him to make a deep impact in the energy industry. In a world where involvement in politics may be more important than ever, Gerardo has not only made a commitment to change the world, but is doing so with his academic and professional involvements.
