Himansu Shaw is a PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Houston and a UH Chevron Energy Graduate Fellow. His research focuses on developing intelligent robotic inspection technologies for subsea oil and gas infrastructure by combining smart-touch sensing and artificial intelligence. His work aims to improve the safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of inspecting critical offshore assets through robotic, non-destructive inspection methods.

A key challenge in subsea inspection is the limited availability of underwater data for training artificial intelligence models. Himansu is developing data-efficient AI techniques that enable reliable inspection even with limited underwater datasets, thus advancing the next generation of intelligent inspection systems for the offshore energy industry.
Before joining the University of Houston, Himansu earned a graduate degree in mechatronics and spent several years in the automotive industry specializing in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) testing and technology development.
Beyond research, Himansu serves as the president of the HinduYUVA student organization at UH. He enjoys mentoring students, organizing educational and cultural initiatives, and is passionate about teaching and inspiring the next generation of engineers and researchers. He aspires to bridge academia and industry by translating cutting-edge research into practical technologies.
