F/CM Hosts Excellence Awards Luncheon for Staff

By Marilyn Leider

Facilities/Construction Management (F/CM) recently hosted its annual Excellence Awards Luncheon for staff.

The theme was “Hawaiian Fiesta” with Mexican cuisine and Hawaiian décor. In addition to savoring the meal, attendees had the opportunity to wear leis and take photos in a photo booth.

The First Celebration: Years of Service

F/CM Senior Associate Vice Chancellor/Vice President David Oliver served as the event emcee for a full room. The first category of celebration was the Years of Service Certificates, recognizing staff who have worked for the University of Houston for five-plus years. The list progressed in length of service, culminating with Beatriz Vargas, who celebrated her 44th year with UH. Oliver himself received a Years of Service certificate for 10 years.

The Excellence Awards: An Overview

Based on F/CM’s motto of Building Futures, Maintaining Excellence, the two titular awards express a range of possible interpretations, yet always denote exceptional performance.

Building Futures Awards typically go to one team and one individual whose work improved the future of the department, the campus, and most importantly student success.

Maintaining Excellence Awards typically go to one team and one individual for outstanding work that ensured exceptional operations for the department and/or University.

Both awards signal UH’s reputation for the highest standards.
