“This Has Been My Goal for Years”: Sally Al Amili Gains PMP Certification

By Marilyn Leider

Facilities/Construction Management is proud to announce that Sally Al Amili, project manager with Facilities Services, has acquired PMP certification.

What is the PMP certification?

If you’ve ever been interested in project management, you may have heard of the PMP, short for the Project Management Professional exam. Achieving the PMP certification is an intense process, often requiring months of study.

“It is a big accomplishment. It is the hardest test I have ever taken in my life,” said Jennifer Rea, assistant vice president/vice chancellor of Facilities Customer Relations & Communications (FCRC).

In spite of the challenges, the return on investment is tremendous. The PMP curriculum covers the entire project life cycle across various industries, helping eliminate knowledge gaps in project managers. PMP-certified project managers acquire crucial knowledge and skills as they lead teams and deliver completed projects on schedule.

“It Makes Me More Aware”

I had the opportunity to interview Al Amili about her PMP experience.

How does it feel to have earned the PMP certification?

Al Amili: I’m so happy and excited. The PMP was a very hard exam. When I found out I passed, I could feel proud of my months of studying. This certification has been my goal for years.

What was taking the exam like? How much effort did you need to put in?

Al Amili: The exam was so difficult because all 180 questions were scenarios to show your decision-making. It was four-hours long with a 10-minute break every 60 questions. All the multiple-choice answers to choose from were correct, but you still had to choose the best answer each time.

I studied for the PMP for more than two months.

How does this certification support your work in Facilities/Construction Management? How does it support the goals of the University of Houston?

Al Amili: The PMP certification enhances my experience as a project manager, making me more aware of principles and mindsets that can inform my work.

It’s good also for Facilities/Construction Management and the University of Houston because it’s helping to maintain excellence by maintaining our campus.
