A Roast and Toast of Richard Murray

On April 9, the Hobby School community honored Richard Murray, whose 60-year career has informed public policy and political analysis and inspired careers in public service. Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Texas State Sen. Carol Alvarado and Texas State Rep. Jolanda Jones joined other speakers in reflecting on his influence as a mentor, educator and trusted voice in Texas politics. The event benefited the 2027 Hobby Fellows program, continuing Murray’s impact on policymaking through future public servants.

Meet the 2026 Leland Fellows in Washington, D.C.

Ten University of Houston students are serving as Leland Fellows on Capitol Hill, gaining hands-on experience as congressional interns. The emerging leaders support legislative research, attend meetings and briefings, and engage with constituents on a range of policy issues. Through this immersive experience in the nation’s capital, Leland Fellows gain insight into the inner workings of the federal government while building skills, professional networks and practical knowledge.
