UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights Internship

The UNESCO Chair in Bioethics & Human Rights – Rome (the “Chair”)
seeks applicants for its internship program.

  APPLY HERE!

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

Duties -
Interns will be assigned to work directly with a Fellow or Research Scholar of the Chair (“Faculty”), assisting with their scholarly and/orresearch projects. In general, you can expect to work in an area in which one or more of the Fellows or Scholars are working in. It is unlikely research will involve human or animal subjects, but if it does, it will be approved by appropriate IRBs.

Since you will be assigned to work with one (or perhaps more) Faculty, it will be helpful for you to identify projects or individual Faculty you would like to work on or with.

Applications -
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, but internships will have fixed beginning and ending dates.

Duration of the appointments -
Appointments will begin upon agreement with the Chair and the Fellow or Research Scholar Applicant will be working with. All appointments will end on December 31, April 30, or July 31, and may be renewed as agreed. Appointments may extend past graduation.

Location of internship -
Since the duties of the Internship will be performable online, Applicant will be able to work from anywhere. If the Intern has the resources, and proper travel documents, they will be able to arrange to work in Rome for an agreed upon period.

Eligibility -
Juniors, seniors and graduate students (on academic or professional tracks) are eligible. While there are no fixed requirements for grades, etc., your application will be evaluated for your fit with an existing or planned project. Your reading, writing and analytic skills, and your interests, will be important. A writing sample will be required.

Compensation -
The Internships will be unpaid. In some cases, Interns may be eligible for a UH program that provides some funding. You will receive an institutional email for use during your internship.

The Annual Rome Study Abroad Program

The Medicine & Society Program in the UH Honors College oversees an annual study abroad program in which students attend global bioethics courses and take tours of cultural sites. A requirement of the study abroad program is that participants take the Global Bioethics course offered in Medsoc every Spring. The study abroad program takes place with the Chair, and aspiring and existing interns are strongly encouraged to apply for the study-abroad program too.
