Optional Benefits – Aflac Coverage for University of Houston System Employees
The University of Houston System partners with Aflac to offer a range of optional supplemental insurance plans for benefit-eligible employees through payroll deduction. These plans are designed to provide additional financial protection beyond the benefits currently offered through the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS).
These optional benefits are fully employee-paid and are not subsidized by the University or the System. Coverage is also available for eligible domestic partners.
The available Aflac plans include:
- Accident Insurance
- Cancer Insurance
- Critical Illness Insurance
- Hospital Protection Insurance
Enrollment Information for New Employees
Newly hired employees have the opportunity to enroll in these optional benefits within their first 30 days of employment. If coverage is not elected during this initial eligibility period, employees must wait until the annual Open Enrollment period to enroll or make changes.
Information for Current Aflac Policyholders
The University of Houston System transitioned to Aflac group policies several years
ago, moving away from traditional individual policies. If you currently hold an older
individual policy, you may keep your existing coverage, and no action is required.
However, we encourage you to review the current group offerings to ensure you are
aware of available benefits and enhancements.
