Blessy Varughese, D.O., M.P.H.

Blessy Varughese, D.O., M.P.H., is the assistant clerkship director for internal medicine and a faculty member in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. She is also an endocrinologist whose clinical interests include diabetes mellitus and the full spectrum of endocrine disorders. In her role, she works with patients to improve management of chronic conditions while integrating preventive health strategies and evidence-based treatments. She also contributes to medical education by training and mentoring students in internal medicine and endocrinology.

Her work is informed by a commitment to addressing health disparities, expanding access to care, and advancing community health through prevention and early intervention. Varughese has participated in clinical research on diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disorders, including national studies on GLP-1 and GIP receptor therapies.

Varughese is a practicing endocrinologist based in the Houston Memorial City area and also provides remote care to patients both locally and across state lines. She completed her fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and her residency in internal medicine at the Corpus Christi Medical Center. Earlier in her career, she served as a Health Policy Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) Fellow with the American Osteopathic Association, where she developed a strong interest in the intersection of clinical care and health policy.

Varughese earned her medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Houston Baptist University, where she graduated magna cum laude.

She is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology and is a member of several national and state associations. Varughese has received many honors and awards throughout her academic career and volunteers her time at various local organizations. Outside of her professional work, Varughese enjoys Bharatanatyam, a classical South Indian dance, as well as music and travel.
