Amber Zulfiqar, M.D., M.Ed.

Amber Zulfiqar, M.D., M.Ed., is M.D. Lead for Academic Support & Student Success, clinical associate professor and director of Foundation & Clinical Sciences Integration for the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. In these roles, she provides medical education and content expertise to support student academic success across all phases of the curriculum. She partners with course and clerkship faculty to strengthen learning and clinical reasoning and develop timely, individualized, learner-centered content support. She also works with faculty, assessment and curricular leaders to provide content support for USMLE preparation.

Zulfiqar supports the College of Medicine’s clinical education curriculum, including pre-clinical clerkship courses, Physicians, Patients and Populations courses, and the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship.

As a family physician specializing in geriatric and palliative medicine, Zulfiqar practices at UH Health Family Care Center. She is also an active member of the American Association of Family Practice.

Prior to joining the Fertitta Family College of Medicine, Zulfiqar was an associate program director of geriatric fellowship at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. She also served as a clinical faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine where she won the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award from 2013 to 2021.

Born and raised in Pakistan, she earned her medical degree from Dow Medical College. Zulfiqar completed her residency in family and community medicine and completed her fellowships in geriatric and palliative medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.
