Who You Reach in NSM
The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics includes six academic departments: Biology & Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics.
NSM is also one of the university’s largest academic communities, with 4,500 undergraduate majors and 990 master’s and doctoral students.

Research & Applied Problem Solving
NSM undergraduates participate in hands-on research across disciplines, including programming, pure and applied mathematics, extended field work, and wet lab experiments. Students gain experience through opportunities on campus and in partner settings like the Texas Medical Center, the UH Coastal Center, and industry labs.
Quantitative & Analytical Thinking
Across NSM majors, students are trained to analyze complex systems, interpret results, and communicate conclusions clearly. Many students strengthen these skills through research, advanced coursework, and team-based learning environments.
