The University of Houston College of Pharmacy Delta Delta Chapter of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity secured its second consecutive — and its eighth since 2015 — Chapter of the Year Award while three of its members were elected to executive positions at the organization's Southwest Province Spring Assembly March 28 in Houston.
The chapter, which hosted the meeting, was recognized for the following:
- Participating in eight health fairs and other health-related events, with members providing blood pressure and glucose screenings and education on topics ranging from smoking cessation and heart health to HIV/AIDs and immunizations
- Operating philanthropic and donation campaigns — including the annual Mr. Pharmacy pageant — for various nonprofit organizations, such as Reach Out and Read!, The Bear Foundation of Houston, and the Houston Food Bank
- Organizing alumni-student socials, such as guest speaker presentations, a casino night and its annual alumni barbecue
- Hosting workshops on topics such as mentoring and building lasting connections, professional etiquette in rotations, and creating intentions for the new year
"Across our events and community outreach efforts, members were not only present but actively engaged, often stepping into leadership roles," said Sharmane Joubert, chapter regent. "This reflected a healthy, motivated chapter culture and a genuine commitment to the values of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity."
At the meeting, Pharm.D. student chapter members Michael Crichlow and Emetu Umah completed their terms on the Southwest Province Executive Committee as Chaplain and Webmaster, respectively. Fellow chapter members Tien Nguyen, Joubert and Tobechi Enyioko were elected to be the province's Vice Satrap, Secretary and Webmaster, respectively.
"We would not be as successful as we are year after year without the hard work of all of our officers, the support of our advisor, Dr. Williams, and the continued dedication from our alumni and active members," Joubert said.
