Mike Emery is an award-winning communications professional with an extensive career dedicated to higher education public relations and strategic communication. Since August 2001, he has served in various leadership capacities for the University of Houston System. He currently serves as Executive Director of University Communication for UH’s Office of the Provost
Throughout his tenure at the University of Houston, Emery has held multiple roles, including Senior Media Relations Representative and Assistant Director of Media Relations.
His commitment to academic communication extends beyond the flagship campus. From 2016 – 2022, he also served as the Director of Communications for the University of Houston-Downtown, overseeing media relations and executive communication.
Since 2006, he has taught courses at UH’s Jack J. Valenti School of Communication and services as a faculty advisor for student organizations.
Before transitioning into higher education, he gained valuable experience in journalism and corporate communication. He also contributed content to publications such as Blues Review, Blues Access, the Houston Press, Relix Magazine and The Austin Chronicle.
Emery holds a Master of Arts degree in Humanities from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Texas State University.
