Tim Council joined the University of Houston in June 2023 as the Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Services. In this role, he serves as the university’s chief enrollment officer and oversees several key departments, including Undergraduate Admissions, Scholarships and Financial Aid, and the Office of the University Registrar.
Prior to joining UH, Council was the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Admissions at Claremont Graduate University, a member of the distinguished Claremont Colleges consortium. He also served as the Director of Admissions at the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences, and began his career spending several years working in law school admissions, recruitment, and financial aid at Loyola Law School and the University of San Diego.
With over fifteen years of higher education experience, Council has focused much of his career on driving organizational change within departments dedicated to customer service, student success, and enrollment optimization. His expertise includes substantial work in financial aid and scholarship leveraging designed to increase new student yield and boost continuing student retention. Furthermore, his background extends to CRM system implementation and utilization to maximize recruitment marketing campaigns—aligning perfectly with recent enrollment management initiatives at UH.
Council holds a master’s degree in postsecondary administration from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of San Diego. He also holds a Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential from the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.
