Personal Statement
Dr. Yok-Fong Paat is a Professor at the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Texas. Drawing on interdisciplinary training in social work, sociology, applied statistics, and data analytics, her research examines the socio-ecological determinants of well-being across the life course, with an emphasis on behavioral and mental health, health disparities, violence prevention, and child, family, and community well-being. Her scholarship advances evidence-based interventions, programs, and policies to improve health equity and outcomes for socially marginalized and economically disadvantaged populations. Dr. Paat is trilingual in English, Chinese, and Malay.
