Ramadan Begins

Ramadan is a month long Muslim observation that is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Practices include fasting from food, drink and other indulgences to focus on prayer and reflection. The last day of Ramadan is a special holiday called Eid al-Fitr.

Qingming Festival
  • Location: China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand
A traditional Chinese festival observed by the ethnic Chinese in several countries. Occurring on the 15th day after the Spring Equinox, the holiday recognizes the traditional respect of ancestors in Chinese culture. Activities include visiting ancestor's tombs, cleaning grave sites, praying to ancestors and making ritual offerings.

Palm Sunday is a Christian holiday that occurs during Lent and marks the first day of Holy Week. It is a week before Easter Sunday.

Easter Sunday

An annual festival that is celebrated by numerous people around the world both as a secular holiday of egg hunting centered around the Easter Bunny and as a religious Christian holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This panel discussion is part of the part of the Diversity Over Division campaign, a collaboration with the Fort Bend County Judge's Office, the University of Houston at Sugar Land and the Fort Bend County Libraries.

Movies At Miller: Encanto
  • Time: 8:15 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Location: Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6000 Hermann Park Dr, Houston, TX 77030
The animated musical is set in Colombia where it tells the story of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals. The studio describes the plot as: “[The Madrigals] live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.”
