Forever Tango
  • Time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Location: Online
Forever Tango tells the story of the birth of the tango in 19th century Argentina. Originally shunned by Argentina society as indecent, the tango became an overnight craze in upper-class Paris when Argentine intellectuals taught it when traveling abroad. The tango quickly spread across Europe and to America, and was eventually re-imported home to Argentina society, though not unchanged. Born in the brothels and bordellos of Buenos Aires, the tango may be Argentina’s best known export. Forever Tango features fourteen world-class tango dancers, one vocalist and an on-stage eleven piece orchestra, including the instrument of the tango, the bandoneon.

Family-History Research: U.S. Census Records

Library staff from the Genealogy and Local History Department at Fort Bend County Libraries will show the beginning family researcher how to trace family history using census records from 1790 to 1950, which may contain information such as family members’ names, birthplace of parents, professions, military service, and other details that were significant during different periods. Special census records – such as the 1890 Veteran Census, as well as the Slave, Mortality, and Indian schedules – will also be discussed.

Annual day in the United States of America for the election of federal. state and local public officials. Voters must be registered in order to vote and early voting periods provide voters additional opportunities to exercise this important right.

Culinary Club is a monthly potluck and recipe exchange. While we can now meet in person, we still can’t share food at this time. But we can talk about our recipes and share our experiences in the kitchen! This month’s theme is Nachos. We invite you to bring a photo of your dish or a short video of how you prepared it, if you like.
Young Adult Advisory Council

The George Memorial Young Adult Advisory Council meets monthly to express ideas, organize upcoming teen activities, and suggest new teen programs. You can earn volunteer hours and help make the library a better place for teens.

Senior Series: The Truth About Living with Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

The topic of dementia isn’t fun, but it is on the minds of people everywhere. As human beings, we love the fact that we are in control of our lives, so the idea of developing dementia can be terrifying. It’s also very confusing. In this month’s seminar we will literally get a chance to “pick the brains” of experts in aging, neuroscience, and memory-care as they share the ins and outs of diagnosing, managing, and living with dementia. This program is geared toward older adults and their family members. It is free and open to the public. No registration required.

Native American History Month: Native Americans in Texas

Dr. Cox, Chairman of the History Department of the Houston Community College, will be lecturing on the history of Native Americans in Texas. He will be discussing the various tribes and their locations, interactions with the European settlers and how those interactions influenced the development of the culture of Texas.

World Hello Day
  • Location: Worldwide
World Hello Day began in response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel in the Fall of 1973 and has been adopted by many countries around the world. As a demonstration of the importance of personal communication for preserving peace, everyone is encouraged to greet ten people to encourage world leaders to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts.

National Day of Mourning
  • Location: United States of America
A demonstration, held annually on the fourth Thursday in November, to educate the public about Native Americans, dispel misconceptions about Native American history, and raise awareness toward ongoing as well as historical struggles that tribes face.
