UH Researchers Develop Compact Carbon Capture Technology to Support Growing AI Infrastructure

As AI drives unprecedented demand for electricity, University of Houston researchers are developing a compact technology designed to make carbon capture more practical for power plants supporting the growing AI industry. UH Engineering Professor Mim Rahimi and former UH Ph.D. student Ahmad Hassan, who is currently at Harvard University as a postdoctoral associate, detailed the technology, called Small Modular Electrochemical Containers (SMECs), in a study published in Environmental Science & Technology.

UH’s ROICE Program Awarded $750k Grant for to Establish Workforce Academy for Gulf Region

The Repurposing Offshore Infrastructure for Continued Energy (ROICE) program at the University of Houston has been awarded approximately $750,000 by the Gulf Research Program, a part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, to establish a workforce academy focused on preparing skilled technical workers for the growing field of offshore decommissioning in the Gulf region.
