Dual Degree Program: Construction Management and Architecture

Our dual degree program provides an integrated path to dual graduate degrees in Construction Management and Architecture.
An integrated curriculum merges coursework offered in each degree, reducing credit hours of the two standalone degrees through the optimization of overlapping coursework. This optimization allows a truncated timeline in comparison to obtaining the two degrees independently.
Admissions
Each program maintains autonomy in its admissions. Students interested in this degree program first obtain admission to their primary degree path and then apply to the secondary discipline. This can be done prior to arrival or while in attendance. Two complete and separate applications are necessary: one to the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design (with the specific internal architecture degree track noted) and one to Construction Management in the Technology Division of the Cullen College of Engineering. Each program makes its admission decision independently. Only if both programs approve admission will the applicant be considered a dual degree student.
This degree is designed for students actively enrolled to receive simultaneously, not to be pursued after the completion of either degree.
Accreditation
The preservation of the core curricula of each degree program maintains the accreditation standards for each degree. This is particularly important in the Master of Architecture degree programs (+3 and +2) as these are professionally accredited degree pathways via the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). As a result, the architecture degree serves as the foundation for the dual degree track.
Degree Plans
Architecture Curriculum with Construction Management as Dual Degree
This program combines each of the two tracks of our accredited Master of Architecture: MARCH +3 (99 units/credit hours) and MARCH +2 (60 units/credit hours), as well as the post-professional Master of Science in Architecture: MSARCH (36 units/credit hours) with the Construction Management degree (30 units/credit hours).
Construction Management Curriculum with Architecture as Dual Degree
This program combines the Construction Management degree (30 units/credit hours) with each of the two tracks to our accredited Master of Architecture: MARCH +3 (99 units/credit hours) and MARCH +2 (60 units/credit hours), as well as the post-professional Master of Science in Architecture: MSARCH (36 units/credit hours).
As Architecture is a professionally accredited degree, via the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), the architecture degree serves as the foundation for the dual degree track.
