Dr. Beatrice Falcucci (University of Florence) is a postdoctoral scholar who has won a highly competitive Marie Curie Global Fellowship supported by the European Union. This spring, she will work with Dr. Pratik Chakrabarti, and UH will act as an international partner with the University of Florence and Addis Ababa University on the project, “Looking at Italian Africa Nature, Animals and Safari.” Dr. Falcucci focuses on hunting narratives using literature, film, and museum exhibitions that used wildlife to symbolize imperial conquest in Italian culture. She writes that she, “chose the University of Houston’s Department of History as a partner for my project specifically for the exceptional expertise of its researchers and professors in studies of colonialism, imperialism, and racism. The opportunity to work with Dr. Pratik Chakrabarti as my supervisor during the initial phase in the US was particularly compelling, given his extensive experience with competitive grants and his profound knowledge on the relationship between nature and colonialism.” We welcome Dr. Beatrice Falcucci to our global department, college, and campus!
