At the Collaborative on Aging Research and Multicultural Assessment (CARMA) Lab, we are committed to advancing culturally responsive neuropsychological research and training the next generation of scientists and clinicians.
Our Mission
CARMA conducts innovative, community-engaged cognitive aging research focused on Hispanic/Latino populations. We develop culturally and linguistically appropriate cognitive assessment tools and approaches, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and build equitable research infrastructure.

Prospective Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate Research Assistants
Join a collaborative research team making an impact on cognitive health equity. As a research assistant (RA), you will:
- Gain hands-on experience in culturally responsive neuropsychology
- Review key literature and assist with data collection
- Receive mentorship from doctoral students and faculty
- Develop skills for graduate school and research careers
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 hours/week commitment
- Minimum two semesters of participation (Fall and Spring)
- Completed coursework: Introduction to Psychology and Introduction Methods in Psychology
- Course credit may be available after one semester of volunteer experience. Assigned credit hours are based on availability (e.g., 3-4 hrs/week = 1 credit).
Prospective Graduate Students
We welcome applicants to the Clinical Psychology PhD program who are passionate about research that informs underserved communities.
Ideal candidates:
- Have a strong record of research experience aligned with CARMA’s mission
- Meet or exceed UH Department of Psychology and Graduate School requirements
