UH Energy in collaboration with the Biotechnology Program in the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Houston's Cullen College of Engineering recently celebrated the successful completion of its Biomanufacturing Certificate (Microcredentialing) Program.
The program was held between June 1 and June 4 and was an intensive four-day, in-person training. It provided participants with hands-on experience in modern biomanufacturing processes, focusing on the production of protein-based products using stirred-tank bioreactors and downstream purification technologies. Through a combination of lectures, laboratory exercises, and practical demonstrations, gained industry-relevant skills that are essential for careers in biotechnology, biomolecule manufacturing, and related sectors.
As the biomanufacturing industry continues to expand across Texas as well as nationally, there is great demand for highly skilled professionals in the area. UH's Biomanufacturing Certificate Program is designed to equip the next generation of biotechnology professionals with practical expertise in critical competencies such as bioprocess development, bioreactor operation, and product purification.
"Our goal is to provide participants with practical, industry-ready skills that can be immediately applied in modern biomanufacturing environments," said Dr. Yuheng Lin, Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology and the Program Coordinator. "As the biotechnology sector continues to grow, programs like this play a critical role in developing the talent needed to support innovation, economic development, and the future of biomanufacturing."
By combining academic excellence with hands-on technical training, the certificate program empowered participants to enhance their professional credentials and strengthen their competitiveness in the rapidly growing biomanufacturing sector.
