Gessner Graduation Checklist

Students should confirm that all major requirements are complete (via myUH) prior to their final semester. Contact your advisor immediately for assistance if you see any missing coursework. Please be advised that all requirements on the Degree Progress Report must be marked as “complete” to graduate.

Apply/file for graduation via your myUH account before the posted deadline(s). Students must apply for graduation on myUH by the 1st UH graduation deadline in order for their names to be included the program for the ceremony. Students who apply for graduation after the first graduation deadline (see above) will not have their names appear in the program.

- Login to your myUH account
- Select the myUH Self Service icon
- Select the "Advising" Tile
- Select "Apply for Graduation"
- Double check that the semester and all your personal information is correct! If you see errors, contact your academic advisor as soon as possible.

Order your Regalia. Graduates are required to wear regalia (cap and gown) to commencement. You can order regalia online and have it shipped directly to you.

Purchase your official UH Gessner College of Nursing Pin. Your pin will be a part of the cherished tradition of the Guarding of the Rings at the Houston Zoo.

Download your commencement tickets. Tickets will be required for all guests. Children who are two years old and younger do not need a ticket. Graduates participating in the ceremony do not need a ticket.
Tickets will be added to graduating students’ UH Student Ticketing Account. Each graduate will receive six (6) electronic, general admission tickets. Tickets are ceremony-specific and may only be used for the ceremony displayed on the ticket.
All commencement tickets are complimentary, and any unused tickets should be returned to the commencement ticket pool. The selling of commencement tickets is not condoned and constitutes a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.

Support Gessner College of Nursing and purchase your UH Spirit Cord. All funds from the sale of the UH Spirit Cord go directly to the Friends of Nursing account. These funds have directly supported our students (you included!) through food purchased for events such as Interview Day, Nursing Orientation, Hands of Caring ceremony, Coffee with the Dean, and the Scholarship Reception, just to name a few.

Graduating with Honors
Undergraduate students (Traditional BSN and Second Degree BSN) who complete their degree requirements will graduate with the stated academic honors if they achieve the following grade point averages earned in the last fifty-four (54) hours (all of which must be A, B, C,... letter grade courses) completed at the University of Houston. Grades of S, U, I and W are not assigned grade point values and are not used in the computation of the grade point average.
- 3.90 to 4.0 Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors)
- 3.70 to 3.89 Magna Cum Laude (with high honors)
- 3.50 to 3.69 Cum Laude (with honors)
Further, the honors calculation will include all hours completed in the semester in which the first of those final fifty-four (54) hours were completed.
Commencement Guest Ticket Lottery
Need additional guest tickets? Students interested in entering the commencement guest ticket lottery to receive additional tickets can submit a request for more tickets.

Cullen Performance Hall Accessibility Information for Guests
- Recommended: Guests with limited mobility should plan to arrive 1-1.5 hours prior to ceremony start time.
- Cullen Performance Hall is designed with ADA accessible parking, restrooms, and seating areas.
- Closed captioning and ASL interpretation is provided for those in attendance and via livestream.
- Guests needing mobility assistance should bring their own or rented wheelchairs or
walkers.
- These or other such devices and escorts are not provided; make accommodations prior to arriving.
- Parking is available to guests who have limited mobility and have a valid state-issued
accessible parking license plate, placard or can show a disability-related need.
- The main parking lot for the Cullen Performance Hall is at the Welcome Center Garage located at 4434 University Drive, Houston, TX 77204
- Once you exit from the North side of the Welcome Center Garage, the Cullen Performance Hall will be to the left at the end of University Drive.
Cullen Performance Hall Clear Bag Policy
- Cullen Performance Hall enforces a clear bag policy.
- A clear bag at 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches (LxWxH).
- A one-gallon resealable bag.
- A small clutch at 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches (LxW) no thicker than 3.5 inches.
- Wristlets must not be more than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches (LxW) and no thicker than 3.5 inches.
- Billfolds must not be more than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches (LxW).
- This policy is subject to change without notice.
- All measurements are provided in inches, using US customary units.
