Dear Colleagues,
Fall is in full swing, and I hope classes and other activities are going well!
With the new academic year comes a University filled with students. Some are on scooters; others on skateboards; and many still navigate our campus the old-fashioned way—on foot. Among these Coogs are nearly 7,100 freshman (a record for UH!) and over 4,300 transfers.
It goes without saying that these newest Cougars are hearing great things about our institution. Whether they’re learning about our award-winning community members or UH’s many groundbreaking research projects, it is safe to say that your hard work helped bring them here.
All of you make a difference when it comes to the University’s growth, and I am looking forward to an exceptional fall semester.
As you’ve noticed, construction continues around the University, but there’s definitely progress. Pathways are slowly opening in front of and behind the Ezekiel Cullen Building revealing just a glimpse of the campus transformation.
You are no doubt also aware of the recent revisions to the core curriculum as UH (and all state universities) work to remain in compliance with SB 37. I provided a recent update on this process, but I’d again like to offer thanks to the working group assigned to this process. And thank you to everyone who shared feedback.
There is still work to be done regarding core curriculum next year, and I will keep you updated on that process.
In the meantime, let’s continue to work together to ensure all of our students have a transformational higher education experience at the University of Houston.
