Spring Forward

When you started at UH, you shared ambitious goals for your college experience. Like many first-year students, you told us you wanted to:

  • Earn good grades
  • Graduate on time
  • Build confidence in your abilities
  • Connect with faculty, staff, and peers
  • Take advantage of opportunities inside and outside the classroom

As you prepare for spring enrollment, this is the perfect time to reflect on what's working and build on those successes.

Reflect Before You Register

Your first semester has given you valuable information about yourself as a student. Before choosing your spring classes, take a moment to reflect:

Think about:

  • Which classes felt most engaging?
  • When were you most productive?
  • Where did you study best?
  • What study strategies worked well?
  • Which campus resources helped you succeed?
  • Who did you turn to for support when you had questions?
  • What Would You Like to Change?

Consider:

  • Were there times you felt overwhelmed?
  • Did you wait too long to ask for help?
  • Were there commitments that made balancing school difficult?
  • Could your schedule better support your academic goals?

Successful students use what they learn from one semester to improve the next.

Spring enrollment is about more than selecting classes. It's an opportunity to intentionally build a semester that supports your success. As you plan, consider:

Create a Schedule That Works for You

If you learned that:

  • Morning classes helped you stay focused, look for similar course times.
  • Studying between classes improved productivity, build that time into your schedule.
  • Certain environments helped you concentrate, plan to use those spaces again next semester.

Your schedule should support both your academic responsibilities and your personal well-being.

Stay Enrollment Ready

Before your enrollment appointment, make sure you've completed the steps necessary to register.

Review the Enrollment Ready Checklist. The checklist can help you:

  • Check your enrollment appointment
  • Review and resolve holds
  • Prepare your schedule
  • Understand enrollment processes
  • Access important university resources

Students who achieve their goals don't do it alone.

As you prepare for spring:

  • Meet with your academic advisor
  • Visit your instructors during office hours
  • Connect with campus resources
  • Reach out when questions arise
  • Building relationships today can support your success throughout your UH journey.

The transition from fall to spring is an important milestone in your first year.

Take what you've learned this semester and use it to make informed decisions about the next one.

Ask yourself:

  • What habits helped me succeed?
  • What challenges taught me something important?
  • How can I build on my strengths next semester?
  • Spring enrollment isn't just about choosing classes.

It's about creating a plan that helps you continue growing, learning, and moving toward your goals.
