Academic Success
Take ownership of your academic journey.
- Meet with your academic advisor to ensure you are on the right path towards your degree. Here are some questions
to ask during the meeting:
- How far along am I in my degree plan?
- Do I need to take a class this summer to graduate in four years?
- Does my degree require a minor, a capstone, or a foreign language?
- Review your Academic Map and understand upcoming requirements such as minors, capstones, or other program requirements.
- Seek support early when facing academic challenges:
- A counselor in CAPS if you are feeling overwhelmed
- An advisor for academic issues
- Student Accessibility Center
- LAUNCH, SEP, the Writing Center, and CASA for tutoring services
- A Degree Completion Specialist for barriers affecting your progression
- Understand financial aid, scholarships, and budgeting resources to support your continued success. Money can play a crucial role in your well-being and academic performance. Who can you talk to at UH about your finances?

- UH Financial Literacy for budgeting, credit, student loans, or other money matters
- Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) beginning in October for the next academic year

- Meet with a Career Counselor to discuss career interests and goals.
- Create or update your resume and professional online presence.
- Attend any of the offered workshops.
- Explore internship, job shadowing, and experiential learning opportunities.

Expand your involvement and impact.
- Take a more active role in student organizations and campus activities.
- Explore leadership opportunities within organizations and campus programs.
- Participate in volunteer, service, and community engagement experiences.
- Build meaningful connections with peers, faculty, and campus mentors.
- Continue developing skills that support personal growth, teamwork, and leadership.
