How to Stay on Track for Four-Year Graduation
Understand Your Pace
A bachelor's degree typically requires approximately 120 credit hours. To graduate in four years, many students need to complete an average of 30 credit hours each academic year, or about 15 credit hours each semester.
While 12 credit hours is generally considered full-time enrollment, students taking fewer than 15 credits may need additional semesters, summer coursework, or other planning to maintain their desired graduation timeline.
Every student's situation is different. Work responsibilities, family commitments, financial considerations, transfer credit, and degree requirements can all influence course load decisions. Understanding how your choices affect degree progress can help you create a plan that supports your goals.
Make Informed Decisions
Every course counts toward your degree plan. Before making changes to your schedule, consider how those decisions may affect your path to graduation.
Ask yourself:
- Will this keep me on pace for graduation?
- Am I meeting prerequisites for future courses?
- Could this affect my financial aid or scholarships?
- Have I discussed my options with an advisor?
Taking a few minutes to review your plan today can help you avoid delays tomorrow.
