Fellows develop, lead, and evaluate health allied community-based projects in collaboration with partner agencies in Texas. Monica will have the opportunity to meet with a team of mentors, gain valuable experience in community engagement, and make a direct impact on  the community and partner agencies served.

Her social work journey has been guided by a passion for mental health and overcoming housing insecurity. She looks forward to learning about the critical mental health disparities contributing to housing insecurity. She is also excited to witness the success stories that will emerge from her time in the fellowship.

On the honor, she said: “This recognition for me comes at a vital point in my education and means that my voice was heard, my dream was worth supporting, and my time has finally come. My experiences at the GCSW have truly empowered me to face injustices with audacity when my grief wouldn’t normally allow. It taught me how to be courageous in my asks because there are individuals, non-profit organizations, foundations, and the like that exist solely to help in times of great need.”

Congratulations, Monica! We applaud your meaningful achievements – and applaud your drive to navigate new spaces and sharpen your skills. This honor is proof of how GCSW students are charting their path towards excellence.
