The University of Houston at Sugar Land joins ABC 13 and Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center for the annual Share Your Holidays, Benefiting the Houston Foodbank. The Ismaili Center will be accepting all drop-offs of donated goods.

Hanukkah Ends
  • Location: Worldwide
A Jewish festival, also known as the Festival of Lights, that commemorates the recovery of Jerusalem. Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days by lighting the candles of a candelabrum, also known as a menorah or hanukkiah, with nine branches.

Bodhi Day
  • Location: Worldwide
Buddhist holiday that commemorates the day that the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, experienced enlightenment.

Christmas
  • Location: Worldwide
An annual festival that is celebrated by numerous people around the world both as a secular holiday of gift-giving and as a religious Christian holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

Sunday 12/26

Kwanzaa Begins
  • Location: Worldwide
A week-long annual celebration of African-American culture that is based on harvest festival traditions from various parts of Africa. Traditions include celebration of seven principles of African Heritage and a communal feast, called Karamu, on the sixth day of observance.

Friday 12/31

New Year's Eve
  • Location: Worldwide
The last day of the year on the Gregorian calendar. New Year's Eve is commonly celebrated at evening parties and by watching or lighting fireworks. The celebrations generally include a countdown to midnight.
