University of Houston welcomes you to our 2026 Earth Week!
 

Celebrate Earth Week at University of Houston and seize the opportunity to connect with fellow students while learning about sustainability through engaging events and activities! Look through our photos from last year to get inspired for this year's Earth Week. 
 


 

Monday, April 20th   

Cougar Move-Out Donation Program 

CV1, CV2, Lofts, Cougar Place, the Quads

Start of the Cougar Move-Out Donation Program. This program offers our students a sustainable alternative to sending unwanted items to landfills. Student Housing and Residential Life (SHRL) has partnered with Green City Recycler (GCR) and Cougar Cupboard and to place collection containers in across our residential halls for 3 weeks. Tuesday, April 21st 

Go Green

Cougar Woods Dining Commons

11am – 2pm

Did you know that Cougars Woods Dining Hall Commons composts all its food waste? The UH Dining team will walk students through the life of their food waste while performing an assessment of how much food is actually thrown away during lunchtime. DJ, themed menu, petting zoo, engagement activities, and swag included!

Volunteer Campus Cleanup

Student Center Circle Drive

3PM – 4:30PM

Volunteer with the Metropolitan Volunteer Program (MVP) and Green Coogs to clean up our campus. Early sign-ups get a free Earth Week shirt! Make sure to wear closed toed shoes and, sun protection. Water and gloves will be provided. Sign up here! 

 

Wednesday, April 22nd 

Plant Swap 

Student Center Plaza Stage

11PM -1PM

Join the Student Center Sustainability Committee and UH Wellness for our special Earth Week Plant Swap! Stop by to plant pot your own plants, pick up cuttings or seeds, and take a step toward greening your own space. 🌱🌍

Special Earth Week Day Maker’s Market

Butler Plaza

11am – 3pm

Join UH Dining, campus departments, and community organizations and student organizations for a special  Farmers Maker’s Market that highlights sustainable products and practices. Don’t forget to bring your reusable tote,  or bring an old t-shirt to give it a new life at the Office of Sustainability tie-dye stand with tie-dye. Be sure to bring an empty, plastic water bottle for converting into a planter. There will be a! scavenger hunt, outdoor games, and more!

 

Thursday, April 23rd 

Sustainability Lunch and Learn 

Student Center Multipurpose Room

12PM – 1PM

Join the Student Centers Sustainability Committee to learn about different sustainability topics while enjoying a free Lunch. Space is limited and be sure to bring your own reusable water bottle!

UH Dining’s Teaching Kitchen 

Health 2, Room 1029 

12PM – 2PM

Refine your culinary skills alongside Chef Mike Rivera while constructing a plant-forward, nutritious chia composition. RSVP soon, as space is limited!

 

Friday, April 24th 

iNaturalist Nature Walk

Student Center North 

11AM – 12PM

Join the Institute for Environmental Resilience for a nature walk across our campus to enjoy and digitally tag some of the 1200 plant and animal species on our campus as part of Earth Week and global City Nature Challenge.  Download the iNaturalist app and join the University of Houston channel.

Take part in the largest community science biodiversity census in the world while helping us better understand the nature that lives in and around urban areas. Sign up here to get a free Earth Week shirt (while supplies last).
