Returning to campus this fall? You may notice a few improvements before you even get to class.
The university completed lighting enhancements in Zone B, with additional upgrades underway in Zone C, as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and visibility across campus. A new parking gate is also being added to Zone B.
Parking is getting easier, too. Recent technology upgrades, including License Plate Recognition and tap-enabled Cougar Card access, have streamlined entry and exit at several campus garages. Visitors can now pay for parking using a QR code, text-to-pay option, or the HONK mobile app.
As bicycles and scooters continue to grow in popularity, the University is also introducing an enhanced micromobility policy aimed at keeping sidewalks, building entrances, and ADA access routes clear and safe.
“Some of the problems that we were seeing throughout campus were ADA access points being blocked and fire and life safety hazards where devices were locked to handrails, entrances, exits, and stairways,” said Kathrine Smith, Program Manager for Parking & Transportation.
To help the campus community understand the new parking and micromobility initiatives, Parking and Transportation Services will launch a campuswide awareness campaign this fall.
Together, these improvements support a safer, more accessible, and more convenient campus experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
