The Houston Shakespeare Festival, produced by the University of Houston, returns to the iconic Miller Outdoor Theatre this summer with performances of the bard’s classics “Henry V” and “As You Like It.”

The Texas State Legislature has appointed award-winning poet and University of Houston English professor Kevin Prufer as the Texas State Poet Laureate for 2026, one of the state’s highest honors for excellence in the arts.

The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has appointed two University of Houston professors to its centennial class of Guggenheim Fellows, one of the world’s most prestigious honors for scholars in the arts and humanities. Anna Mayer, an associate professor in the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, and francine j. harris, an English professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, were among 198 distinguished creative artists chosen from nearly 3,500 applicants.
