Our Pillars
Training in Coaching Older Adults
The Center will prepare health and wellness coaches with specialized, research‑informed skills tailored to the needs of older adults. Our training program will integrate the current findings from gerontology, behavioral science, and health and wellness coaching research to ensure that scientific knowledge is applied effectively in real‑world settings. This pillar strengthens the workforce and expands the reach of proven health‑promotion strategies.
Health and wellness Coaching Research Focused on Older Adults
Research is a structured process used to expand knowledge, and the Center will examine how health and wellness coaching can best support older adults across a range of communities. This includes studying coaching methods, digital and in‑person delivery models, barriers to engagement, and the impact of coaching on functional independence, chronic disease outcomes, and overall well‑being. Research from the Center will focus on the science of coaching older adults that can help to inform best practices.
Research & Innovation
Our Translational Science Approach
The UH Population Health Center of Excellence in Health and wellness Coaching uses a translational science approach to ensure that discoveries in aging, behavior change, and chronic disease management are rapidly and effectively applied to improve the lives of older adults. We seek to bridge the gap between science and practice by transforming evidence based insights into real world health and wellness coaching programs. Integrating of health and wellness coaching research, training, and practice will establish a continuous learning cycle in which researchers can develop and refine evidence based strategies, coaches can apply these strategies with older adults in community settings, and real world outcomes can bring about new scientific questions and innovations. This approach will accelerate the adoption of proven methods, strengthen the scientific foundation of health and wellness coaching for older adults, and ensure that the Center’s work directly benefits older adults, their families, and their communities.
