About the IACUC
The University of Houston Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) assures that animal care and use are in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as well as University policy and assurances. The Committee provides essential guidance and resources to faculty, staff, and students to maintain the integrity of research involving animal subjects.
The University of Houston main campus is an AAALAC accredited institution (00669) that operates under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Registration 74-R-0020 and maintains an active PHS Assurance A-3136-01 with the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW). On-site inspections and reporting requirements associated with these agencies, as well as continuous educational opportunities for all parties involved in animal care and use, help to ensure continuous compliance and the highest quality ethics in animal research.
