King Rhythm: Young Audiences of Houston
  • Time: 2:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
  • Location: University Branch Library, 14010 University Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77479
Join soprano/storyteller Hope Shiver and percussionist David Keepman on a fantastic ride through African American history via popular musical styles. Selected audience members will join in the fun, donning costumes and pantomime, becoming loveable characters Bluesy, Jazzy, and others. The program features lots of audience participation! This program is for students going into 1st-5th grades who are able to stay in a program without their caregiver.

Rhyme & Reason A Celebration of Black History

Music, dance and performance poetry presenting Black History from ancient Africa to today. Featuring poetry by two Houston Poet Laureates: Emanuelee “Outspoken” Bean and Deborah DEEP Mouton.

Bastille Day

This French holiday commemorates the Storming of the Bastille in 1789 as well as the Festival of the Federation in 1790 during the French Revolution. It is also observed in many countries around the world as the French Revolution led to the end of feudalism in Europe and advances in individual freedoms.

Aztec Princess: A Virtual Performance

Join the Aztec Princess as she tells two classic Mexican fables about making good choices, while teaching English and Spanish vocabulary along the way. Fun for all ages and sparkling with educational values and social/emotional skills!

Houston Shakespeare Festival: King Lear

King Lear, in dividing his estate, disowns the wrong child. Family loyalty, betrayal, and madness set the stage for King Lear. Produced by The University Of Houston. Director Stephanie Shine leads a powerful ensemble in Shakespeare’s epic opus, with Jack Young in the title role. Houston Shakespeare Festival uses Shakespeare’s works to draw together our diverse community to explore our common humanity.

NOLA Nights Ft. The Zydeco Dots

Come out and let authentic New Orleans music take you on a historical journey through the Crescent City tradition with live music from The Zydeco Dots, a fun-loving, hard working, talented Houston-based group that plays a dancin’, rockin’, bluesiana blend of zydeco rhythm and blues.
Houston Shakespeare Festival: Cymbeline
  • Time: 8:15 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.
  • Location: Online
Shakespeare’s dark fairytale romance, Cymbeline, tells the tale of a hopeful princess Imogen and her banished secret husband, plus her wicked stepmother, her goofball step-brother, and her powerful father, King Cymbeline. They make a harrowing journey through secret plots, forbidden love, mistaken identity, vile poisons, and treachery. Produced by The University of Houston. Laura Frye returns to Houston to take on Imogen’s adventure. Houston Shakespeare Festival uses Shakespeare’s works to draw together our diverse community to explore our common humanity.

International Day of Friendship
  • Location: Worldwide
A United Nations observance to promote friendship between peoples, countries and cultures in order to inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. A theme is to involve young people in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity.
