Nzube Anwaegbu
Public Policy with a minor in National Security Studies
Nzube Anwaegbu is a senior studying public policy with a minor in national security studies. As an engaged student, she works to make a greater impact in her campus community and beyond through her leadership as an admissions ambassador and an inaugural Hobby School Civic Engagement Ambassador. She is an active member of the Girls Gain Club, MOVE Texas and the UH Pre-Law Society. Nzube is particularly interested in ethical issues related to surveillance, privacy and civil liberties.
“Being a part of the Ethics Bowl team has helped me to hone my critical and analytical thinking skills. It has also broadened my perspective, allowing me to view things from multiple angles. This experience has made me more receptive to new ideas and a greater understanding of concepts I was previously unfamiliar with.”
Sophia Bebawi
Philosophy
Sophia Bebawi is a junior majoring in philosophy. A leader on and off campus, Sophia is the founder and leader of the Next Gen For Justice Coalition, a staff writer at Arete Review, a regular organizer and volunteer with the Education Working Group and the founder of U.H.U.U. or YooHoo (University of Houston Unitarian Universalists). Sophia is particularly interested in ethical issues related to radical, unconditional love through models of care ethics.

I have met some amazing people and learned so much about how you can apply philosophy in an organized and productive way to everyday situations. Ethics Bowl helps you do philosophy in a way that meaningfully contributes to the subject but also makes you a better collaborator in your daily life.”
Cory Bush
Philosophy with minors in phronesis, religious studies, and classical studies (UH Honors College)
Cory Bush is a junior in the UH Honors College program, majoring in philosophy and minoring in phronesis, religious studies and classical studies. Drawing on his leadership and background in Speech and Debate and Model UN, Cory is a UH Undergraduate Law Review Program Director, Phi Kappa Phi member and the founder and coordinator of the UH Fortnite Esports Program. As a Mellon Research Scholar, Cory has conducted research on ethical issues related to artificial intelligence, technology and consciousness.
"The Ethics Bowl provided us with the opportunity to sit down and discuss a variety of difficult, modern and relevant topics as a team. As a philosophy student aspiring to pursue a PhD, this was a truly transformative experience, and I'm grateful to my peers for developing my ideas through open and honest conversation."
JanMarco Flores
Political Science with a minor in legal studies
JanMarco Flores is a senior majoring in political science and minoring in legal studies. As a pre-law student committed to public service, JanMarco served as an after-school teacher with Elite Learning Group Inc. and regularly attends Apple corporate volunteer events, including Habitat for Humanity and Cleaning the Galveston Bay. JanMarco is interested in ethical issues in international governance and legal systems, particularly human rights and incarceration in El Salvador.

Jacobe West
Physics with a minor in entrepreneurship (UH Honors College)
Jacobe West is a sophomore in the Uh Honors College program, majoring in physics and minoring in entrepreneurship. Jacobe is involved across campus and is a member of the Society of Physics Students, the Astronomy Society, the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization, the Wolff Center Tech Roundtable and the Wolffest Volunteer Committee. As a former Cross-Examination (CX) Debate Team Captain, Jacobe is particularly interested in ethical issues related to the protection and limits of religious liberties and intellectual freedom.

The friendships I formed, the depth of the conversations and the collaborative intensity of the competition made it one of the most meaningful and enjoyable experiences I’ve had at UH, and the skills I gained now directly shape how I communicate, collaborate, and even lead in STEM spaces.”
