Fitness Training

Do you enjoy exercising in a group environment but still need some extra guidance and motivation?  If so, these fitness program provides a personalized learning experience, allowing the instructor to address individual questions and needs. You will find it fosters a sense of community and motivation among participants, making the learning process more enjoyable and effective for you.

Wear your brightest pink gear, bring your positive energy, and get ready to strengthen, stretch, and support! Whether you're a Pilates pro or brand‑new to the mat, this class is all about celebrating movement, unity, and hope. Take the next steps in your weight training journey by learning the basics of Olympic lifting! Olympic lifting has proven to help with coordination and explosiveness. Join us as we break down Deadlifts, Power Cleans, & The Clean and Jerk and how each move benefits the other!

Muscles in Motion is a fun, ongoing educational feature that helps you learn more about the body, including how to strengthen, stretch, and support different muscle groups using equipment available right here on the fitness floor.  A complete muscle library is available at the Fitness Zone desk for reference and each week we’ll spotlight one or two muscles with signs placed around the space and on Monday at 5:30pm, we'll have a trainer teach us on the muscle and safe form so we can connect what we’re learning to the exercises and machines around the facility. Whether someone is brand new to exercise or simply looking to reinforce their knowledge, this resource is a great way to build confidence, reinforce good habits, and make exercise feel less intimidating.

Ready to test your limits and see where you stand? Each month, we are challenging you to push your boundaries with our Fitness Monthly Challenge! It is completely free to enter and open to all fitness levels. To participate, simply head over to the fitness desk, ask a staff member to set up the challenge, and have them officially record your time. Your score will be displayed at the desk leaderboard, so you can track your progress and see how you stack up against the rest of campus.

Join us for an interactive “learn together” session, featuring rotating topics. Each session we'll explore practical, real-world concepts to make exercise feel more approachable, safe, and empowering. Whether you’re brand new to fitness or looking to sharpen your knowledge, there’s always something fresh to explore. 

Our fantastic Personal Trainers will also be on site before and after to answer questions, offer guidance, and help you apply what you learned to your own workouts.

Fit-to-Learn is built to create a welcoming space where UH students, faculty, and staff can learn, ask questions, and grow together.

Step into the shoes of an NFL athlete and put your fitness to the test by completing the same drills used in the NFL Combine. This challenge is designed to assess your strength, endurance, and power across a variety of athletic tests!

Join us on 9/11 for a day of remembrance and community as we keep the StairMaster running all day in honor of those who served and the lives lost. Participants can sign up for a time slot to step up and contribute to a shared tribute. As part of the story of 9/11, we recognize the symbolic milestone of climbing the equivalent of the World Trade Center towers (110 floors or ~2,200 steps), but this is not a stopping point. We will keep climbing throughout the day as a continuous tribute.

Everyone is invited to take part in whatever way is meaningful to you: take the climb, come cheer others on, and/or make a donation.

Step into confidence and learn the fundamentals of posing in a fun, hands-on workshop. Whether you’re exploring physique competition or just want to better understand posture, presentation, and body awareness, this session is a chance to build skill, ask questions, and try something new in a supportive environment.

No competition experience required.

Join us for the Halloween Lift-Off for a high-energy, costume-friendly fitness event. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes (within dress code) and take part in a group workout and/or lift-off challenge designed for a range of experience levels.

Personal Trainers and representatives from the Powerlifting Club will be on site to provide technique tips, help with set-up, spot lifts, and answer questions throughout the event. Come lift, learn, and celebrate Halloween in the weight room.

Long hours at the computer can take a toll on the body. This session is designed to help us better understand desk ergonomics, support healthy posture, and explore easy ways to add movement into our day.
Through a short presentation and guided desk exercises, we’ll share approachable tools for reducing tension, staying active, and building healthier desk habits.

Join us at the Fitness Court for a high-energy calisthenics event designed to bring the UH community together and activate the space in a fun, competitive way. Participants will take on team-based challenges such as push-up and pull-up competitions, maximum rep tests, and timed circuit runs to see who can finish fastest. Whether you’re competing or just cheering on your peers, this event is all about movement, community, and discovering new ways to use the Fitness Court.

Join us for a celebration of movement, creativity, and community at our Dance Showcase!
This event invites dancers and dance groups of all styles and experience levels to share their choreography, talent, and passion in a supportive and energetic environment.
Whether you’re new to the stage or a seasoned performer, this is your chance to highlight the hard work you’ve put into your craft and connect with others who share a love for dance. 
Come perform, cheer each other on, and help us bring the dance community together for an evening of fun, expression, and support.

Take a pause from the pace of finals season and join us for a calming evening of restorative yoga. Surrounded by candlelight, this class is designed to help you slow down, release tension, and reconnect with a centered heart and mind. Through gentle movement, breath, and stillness, participants will be guided into a grounding practice that supports rest, reflection, and renewal as the semester comes to a close.

Monthly Challenges

Campus Recreation Fitness challenges and programs will motivate you to move your body, and is a great way to help you stick to those workout resolutions, whether you are a beginner or an expert. Join us on the last Wednesday of every month for the potential to win a prize and have fun!
