Equipment Grants
Equipment Grants program support research labs and groups with modern equipment necessary for preparing competitive external research proposals. About 70% of the awards will be allocated for proposals in UH’s research priority areas. Another 30% will be for any relevant area selected by an investigator.

Eligibility
Full-time tenured, tenure-track, or promotion-eligible UH research faculty without active equipment awards are eligible if they are requesting campus laboratory equipment directly tied to an upcoming external grant proposal.
Eligibility criteria below are a summary. Review the full requirements in the 2026-2027 Guidelines before applying.
Eligible
Full-time UH faculty who are tenured, tenure-track, or promotion-eligible non-tenure-track
Proposals requesting critical equipment needed to support an external grant submission
Research laboratories or groups located on a UH campus and operated by UH faculty
or staff
Projects addressing UH research priority areas or another relevant area of need
Proposals demonstrating strong scientific merit, accountability, and continued impact
One PI and one co-PI from each additional participating laboratory
Not Eligible
Instructional faculty
Faculty currently holding an equipment award with funds that have not been fully expended, including extended awards
Individuals serving as PI or co-PI on more than two applications
Faculty submitting more than one proposal as PI during the same fiscal year
Proposals requesting equipment that is not connected to a future external grant submission
