Lactation Room Support

The University of Houston recognizes the importance and benefits of breastfeeding and is committed to supporting nursing parents on campus. In accordance with federal and state laws, the University provides reasonable break time and a private, appropriate space for employees who need to express breast milk for up to one (1) year after the birth of a child.

The Cougar Parent & Family Engagement Center (CPFEC) works in partnership with campus departments to ensure nursing parents have access to comfortable, accessible lactation spaces and the information needed to navigate available accommodations.

Whenever possible, lactation break time should run concurrently with an employee's scheduled paid break time.

To request lactation accommodations, individuals should complete the Lactation Accommodation Request Form. The form must be signed by both the employee and their supervisor.

If a supervisor denies or amends the request, the form will be submitted to the Office of Equal Opportunity Services (EOS) for review and final determination.

Lactation Room Access

The University of Houston provides several lactation rooms across campus to support nursing parents. These spaces vary in location, amenities, and hours of availability.

Some lactation rooms require Cougar Card access for entry. Card-access locations currently include:

  • Melcher Hall (Bauer College of Business)
  • MD Anderson Library
  • Energy Research Park (ERP) Buildings 3 and 4

To request access to these rooms, individuals should complete the Lactation Room Access Form.Once approved, Cougar Card access will be activated for up to one year.

Requests are processed through the Cougar Parent & Family Engagement Center (CPFEC).

Completed forms may be submitted to: parents@cougarnet.uh.edu

Please allow up to five (5) business days for processing.

Lactation rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
