Pharm.D. student Rebeca Pelayo Carvajal is helping close critical language gaps in patient care. Through Spanish-language counseling, leadership across multiple student organizations and a passion for improving outcomes in Hispanic communities, she is using pharmacy as a powerful tool for advocacy, access and impact.

Ph.D. candidate Sana Sharif has been working under Xinli Liu, Ph.D., associate professor of pharmaceutics, researching nano-formulations for breast cancer treatment and exploring ways to improve tolerance and reduce side effects while improving therapeutic effectiveness.

Gowri Kalyani found her calling in pharmacy after witnessing the powerful role pharmacists play in guiding patients through complex transitions of care. Now a Pharm.D. candidate at UHCOP, she has turned that early inspiration into action — conducting oncology adherence research, advocating for underserved communities through AmeriCorps and Legacy Community Health, and stepping into leadership roles that challenge and grow her.
